Who can Create New Groups
Creating a new group in Platform requires access to either the Organization Admin or Team Admin role. Please reach out to support if you have any questions regarding gaining access to these roles.
Manage Permission on a New Group
When a new Group is created, the creating User’s Primary Group will have Manage permission over the new Group. This ensures that Team Admins can Manage any new Groups they create.
Please reference the Related Groups section of our Updating Groups page, if you wish to remove the Manage permission that is added during Group creation.
Organization Admins have Manage permission over all Users and Groups, even if you do not see an explicit Manage permission for the Organization Admin Group.
How to Create a New Group
- Navigate to the groups index page in Admin Center.
- Click the Create Group button.
- Fill out the following fields:
- Group Name: Group’s display name (e.g. Standard Users)
- Group Slug: Group’s alias name (e.g. standardusers)
- Organization: Defaults to your organization. If you need to create a group in another organization, please contact support.
- Group Description: Multi-line description of the group.
- Roles: Permission bundles that grant access to specific features and functionality in Platform. Groups can have one or more roles assigned to them.
- Default Timezone: Default timezone used for automating Scripts & Workflows. Users can edit their personal timezone setting under “My Profile”, which will override the group’s default timezone.
- Require two factor authentication by default for new users: Recommended. The Civis Platform login security standard is two factor authentication (2FA), which requires a password and either a phone text or Google Authenticator 2FA code for user login. Civis strongly discourages disabling two-factor authentication even if temporary. Refer to Civis Account Recovery Policy and Process for more details.
Note: If the group you are creating will serve as a primary group for users in your organization, please contact support so we can configure the group with appropriate database access.
