The guide below describes some common errors that arise when using Tableau with Platform and walks users through what has been done in previous cases to resolve such issues.
-
Setting up your VPN Access
- See our documentation on connecting to the Civis AWS VPN
-
Connecting to your data on Platform
- Ensure that you are inputting your database password when connecting your Tableau Desktop to Platform! Your database password is distinct from your SSO/Platform password. You can (re)set your database password using the Change Database Password form on the right side of your Civis User Profile.
-
Publishing/viewing reports in Platform
-
"The requested resource might not exist, or you might not have permission to view it."
- This most likely means you are not shared on the Platform report. See our documentation on sharing Platform objects to learn how you can gain access to it.
-
"You do not have permission to publish"
- This error means you don't have publish permissions on the relevant Project in Tableau Server. Tableau has both "site" and "project" level publishing permissions that users must have to be able to publish to the Civis Tableau Server. Client Success can help you confirm that you have publish permissions at each level. Follow up with support@civisanalytics.com
-
You published the report in Tableau Server but the report is not appearing in Platform.
- Ensure you have "Show sheets as tabs" checked when publishing the report.
- If the name of the first tab in the Tableau workbook was changed between edits, your Client Success Analyst will need to manually update the path of the report in Platform.
- Ensure that the Tableau Server credential you used to publish the report has the same username as your Platform account.
- The report in Platform prompts you to enter your Redshift credentials
- Be sure "embed credentials in workbook" is checked when you publish in Tableau.
-
The report in Platform prompts you to enter your BigQuery credentials
- Be sure "embed credentials in workbook" is checked when you publish in Tableau.
-
Authenticate to BigQuery using a service account as well, as the embedded OAuth credentials will expire after 1-2 days.
