Self-Service Sharing on Platform Objects

Ever try to access a Platform object (imports/exports, scripts, workflows, etc.) and get a ‘404: Resource not found,’ or a ‘the requested resource might not exist, or you might not have permission to view it’ error? These errors suggest that your permissions on the object must be updated before you can access or share it with other users. Read on to learn about DIY sharing within your team on Platform objects!

1. Read our documentation on sharing in Platform 
2. Check the table below on current sharing options for Platform objects. Ensure that the object you want to share can be shared by non-admin users. If the object can only be shared by Client Success, reach out to your Client Success representative. If not, onwards we go! 
3. Refer to the sharing truth table to determine what permission level you need. As a best practice, only request the privileges necessary to complete your work (i.e., minimize the number of managers on an object) 
4. Contact a user on your team who manages the object to arrange for your permissions on the object to be updated. Most Platform objects can be shared through the UI or API. Objects shareable using these two methods can be shared by all users. If the Platform object uses a ‘Legacy’ method (see table below) of sharing, follow-up with Client Success to arrange sharing permissions on that object
5. Note that only users with Platform groups in common can share objects with one another. If you do not share any common Platform groups with the object’s manager(s), Client Success can update your group memberships.
