What are Projects?
Projects are folders in Civis Platform allowing you to:
- Organize and store objects into a cohesive location
- Add notes and descriptions
- Share objects and improve collaboration across teams in Platform
There are two different types of projects: Standard and Auto-Share.
Standard Projects offer a way for you to organize & group objects, even if you only have read access to them.
Auto-Share Projects offer a way for you to streamline sharing and collaboration on objects which you have manage access to. Auto-Share projects will automatically share all objects with everyone added to the project.
How to Create a Project
Start by clicking either:
- The "+ New Project" link at the top of the left-hand Projects pane:
- Or the “New Project” button on the Projects index page:
You will be taken to the Create Project page:
On the Create Project page, set a Name and Description for your project. You may also Enable Auto-Share from this page and use markdown to add links or additional detail about your project in the Notes section. Once complete, click Create to create your new Project, or Cancel to back out.
To learn how to add objects to your new project, please see How to Add Objects to Projects.
Project Features
Favoriting
Favoriting a project allows you to bookmark any important projects in Platform.
To favorite a project:
1. Click the star icon on the top right-hand corner of the Project detail page.
2. Once a project is favorited, the star icon will turn yellow.
To locate a favorited project:
1. Select the Projects icon in the left nav bar.
2. Your favorited projects can be found underneath the 'Favorites' section.
Notes
The right side of a project's page contains a Notes section. This is a text field that's Markdown-friendly where you can record context for the work contained in a project. You can include lists, links, headers, bold and italicized text, and more.
Cloning
Project cloning is similar to cloning other objects in Platform. The primary difference is that it allows you to make a copy of both a project and its objects, instead of just the project. The project and all cloned objects are distinct objects from their originals. Of the objects that can be put into a project, you can currently clone:
- Notebooks
- Services
- Scripts
- Workflows
- Nested projects
- Objects within nested projects
You can also choose to clone schedules and notifications for project objects using the checkboxes in the side pane. Your selections will apply to all applicable objects.
Projects Index Page
Like all other Civis indices, you can use filtering on the Projects index page. These filters apply to the project tiles that are visible on the homepage under “Recent Projects”.
