Within M-DIVE, there are two primary categories of account type:
- “standard users” and
- “power users”
In general, the type of user account does not affect what data or information a user is authorized to see within M-DIVE. (That is instead determined by their membership in other user groups.) Instead, the account type determines what functionality of the Platform the user has access to, depending on what they need to accomplish within the Platform.
The table below shows a summary of some of the most common tasks that each kind of user is able to perform in M-DIVE.

Transitioning to Power User status
Some user accounts are created as power users, while others may start as a standard user and have their account upgraded later. This may occur if an existing user needs access to some of the functionality described in the previous section, such as the ability to submit Quarterly Report data.
Since account type does not fundamentally affect what data has access to within M-DIVE, users may request an upgrade to their account at any time. If you need to upgrade your account, send an email to support@civisanalytics.com and a Civis support staff member will be able to adjust the settings on your account.
In order to take advantage of the additional features available, new Power Users will need to perform an additional, one-time configuration step to initialize their connection to the M-DIVE database by resetting a database password. Instructions for that process can be found here.
More information on some of the features and resources available to Power Users can be found in the M-DIVE Power User Welcome Packet, which is also shared with all new (or newly upgraded) Power User accounts.
Getting the most out of Power User functionality
Power Users have the ability to take advantage of many, many more options and tools in the Civis Platform software. This is not limited to existing tools and datasets already set up for M-DIVE, but also:
- Importing and Exporting data using additional integrations
- Querying and managing database tables
- Exploring data using R or Python Notebooks
- Automating scripts, and connecting them together in Workflows
- Deploying and hosting custom reports and applications, such as in R Shiny
- Sharing resources with other users and organizing them in Projects
Additional help documentation on the software features available can be found in the Civis Platform Help Center. Or, users may always request additional training and support by reaching out to Bryan Baird, Megan Klingler, and support@civisanalytics.com.
